About the Event
Proper sight alignment and trigger controls are two important parts of marksmanship. The individual shooter should understand that sight alignment is when the front sight of the weapon is seen through the rear sight. The shooter should be able to align the front sight into the notch or groove of the rear sight.
Most weapon systems have dots on the front and rear sight. If the shooter aligns the two dots from the rear sights, and place the dot from the front sight, then the shooter could have sight alignment. It's been said that the front sight should have equal sight and distance to the front sight. During the discharge of the weapon, the shooter should focus on the front sight. I would suggest that the front sight be clear and the target be blurred out.
The individual shooter should understand that a good shooting stance and grip are key components of accurate shooting. It is strongly suggested that the individual shooter use more of a fighting stance when shooting in the standing position. The shooter will bend slightly at the knees with the dominant leg slightly to the rear of the other leg. Legs should be shoulder width apart, and the shooter should be slightly bent at the waist. Many instructors describe this style of shooting as a “Fight or Flight” type stance.
