Enhanced Concealed Carry

During any firearms training, the individual shooter should be aware of several firearm safety rules that must always be followed. The shooting instructor can provide an adequate environment for the shooter, but “accidental” discharges can only be prevented by the individual shooter. 

The first rule of the safe handling of a firearm is to treat every weapon as if it was loaded. This is a rule that should always be followed. This rule would apply when a shooter must present his/her weapon to another individual. If the shooter is unaware if the weapon is unloaded, then they must visually inspect the firearm to ensure that it is a safe and clear weapon.  

The best way to ensure that a semiautomatic weapon is safe is to see if the weapon has a magazine in the magazine weld. The individual shooter should remove any magazines from the magazine weld and secure the magazine on their person if possible. The shooter should then physically grab the weapon’s slide and pull it to the rear. The shooter should then use the slide lock lever to lock the slide in the open position.
